For a couple of years I have had the chance to attend meetings where a graphic facilitator or graphic recorder supported the live documentation of the event. At CIAT, Sophie Álvarez and I  have been starting to use it (very modestly) and  participated in a short workshop with Nancy White.

When  our team prepared for the 45^th anniversary celebrations of CIAT, we discussed the use of graphic facilitation and decided to make a first official “attempt” at the Diáspora event. Our objectives were to introduce the technique, see participants’ reactions, and use the results for our documentation plans (article, multimedia). We invited Jorge Merchán, from the Bogotá based PATALETA (www.pataleta.net), who did an amazing job of boiling down the event contributions in key citations and images.

Desde hace un par de años he tenido la posibilidad de asistir a reuniones donde un facilitador gráfico o registrador gráfico han apoyado la documentación viva del evento en cuestión. Participé en un taller corto con Nancy White y luego, en el CIAT, Sophie Álvarez y yo hemos empezado a usar esta técnica (muy modestamente).

Cuando nuestro equipo se preparaba para las celebraciones del aniversario 45 del CIAT, hablamos del empleo de la facilitación gráfica y decidimos hacer una primera “tentativa” oficial en el evento de la Diáspora. Nuestros objetivos eran presentar la técnica, ver las reacciones de los participantes y usar los resultados para nuestros planes de documentación (artículos, multimedia). Invitamos a Jorge Merchán de PATALETA (www.pataleta.net), quien vino desde Bogotá e hizo un trabajo asombroso en sintetizar las contribuciones del evento en citas e imágenes claves.
